Making Your Home Kitchen Accessible
The kitchen has always been a place for family and socializing. Making changes for the aging can greatly increase usability and the safety of those that live there.
Designing Your Kitchen
We help you design your accessible kitchen so it works for you. We chat with you and your family to determine your requirements and determine the space you available in your home. From there we design a floor plan. We look at doors, cabinets, counter tops, appliances, sinks, electrical, plumbing and flooring to design the perfect kitchen for you and your family.
Appliances
Appliances are an important part of designing an accessible kitchen. The appliances should be easy for the disabled person to operate and maintain. The height and location in the kitchen are critical.
Cabinets
Cabinets generally provide most of storage and often determine the height of your work surface. When designing cabinets we need to make sure you can open cabinet doors and access the items inside. Cabinets may need special drawer pulls and dropdown or pull out shelving.
Countertops and Surfaces
Your counter top may need to be raised or lowered. You may need multiple levels to accommodate others. You may need adjustable surfaces or slide out surfaces.
Plumbing
Plumbing may need to be added or moved for sinks and appliances
Electrical
Electrical outlets may need to be lowered or raised. You may need to add more outlets to accommodate new appliances or work areas.
Flooring
You may need no slip floors. If you are using a wheelchair or scooter you may need extra durable flooring.
Sinks
If you are using a wheelchair sinks will need open space beneath the sink that provides wheelchair accessibility. Faucet location may may need to be moved. Lever Handled Faucets are recommended.
Doors
If you are using a wheelchair you interior and exterior doors may need to be widened to allow wheelchair access
